監修リトルマスタから一言
沖縄・台湾でレゲエやスカ、ラテン、クンビア、アフロをベースとしながら各地でシーンを作るべく活動しているアーティスト群の繋がりをそのままパッケージングしてみた。2014年7月に自分のバンドを引き連れて、Fao Torresや、DJ @llenblowにツアーブックしてもらいながら、台湾ツアーを敢行し、色々バンドに出会ったのをきっかけに、このようなコンピを思いつく。このCDきっかけで沖縄のアーティストが更にどんどん台湾やアジア他諸国にツアーしていって欲しいし、隣国台湾のアーティストも頻繁に沖縄、日本をツアーして欲しいと思います。またこのCDを手にする人もフットワーク軽く、隣国間を行き来して欲しいと思っています。
参加バンドを紹介させてください。
まずは、モンゴル800儀間崇率いるAuthentic Ska Band、The BARCOX。ファミリーバンドと言っていいくらい阿吽の呼吸でグルーヴするスカバンド。録音もこだわっていて、自身で建てた儀間倉庫(GSK)に最近収集した、Drawmer1960(コンプ)やOld Neveのマイクプリを持込み、リボンマイクを4本立て、一発録音。その手法は60年代のスカタライツそのもの。オーセン愛と沖縄愛がビンビン伝わる作品。
銀天街というコザの元黒人街(米国植民地時代)を根城にする、銀天団は、鉄骨むき出しのアパート(Tower of Dub)にて夜な夜なダブを奏でる。よくセッションで参加させてもらったりもしている。送られてきた楽曲は初めて聴く新曲で、こんな引き出しもあったのか、とその成長速度に感心しています。
今年になって、ガーナ人オランドとバンドを組むことになった。バンド名はTenugui Brothers。ハウサ族とフラニ族(アフリカ大陸遊牧民)を先祖に持つオランドは、トーキングドラムや、パロゴを操り唄う伝統音楽奏者。スカ、レゲエ、クンビアと渡り歩いてきた自分の鍵盤演奏と現在化学反応中。同じ時間を東京でも過ごしていたのに、沖縄にお互い来て初めて会って一緒に演奏してるというのが、こっちの(沖縄の)良さかもな、と最近思っていて、後述するけど、台北にも近い雰囲気を感じている。
MADOVER、おそらく、このコンピでは浮いているかもしれない。ただ、自分もかつてはその逆で浮いていたのだ。スカコア、スカパンク勢がひしめく90年代末、ど渋のBe-Bop感丸出しのスカをやり続けた。同業者の応援が心強かった。で、ライブをやるごとに受け入れられるようになっていったという体験を是非引き継いで欲しい、と思っている。
Fao率いるLa Cumbia Del Solもこのエリアならではのバンドかもしれない。リーダーのFaoはコロンビア人で、自国が生み出したクンビアをアジアで広めるべく活動中。バンドには、台北に流れ着いた諸外国のメンバーが居て、勿論台湾のメンバーも居て、独特の雰囲気を出しており、クンビアをベースに台湾トラッド、バルカン、色んな要素がミックスされている。
台北ツアー時に上述クンビアバンドにタケシという日本人ドラマーが居た。聞けば、スカラオケのメンバーだという。スカラオケは沖縄にもよくツアーで来ており、自分はタイミングが合わず見たことはなかったけど、色々やって行きたいねと、飲みの席で盛りあがり、(大概は実現しないのだが)、自分はほとんど酒が飲めないので、そういう話を覚えており、ココに至る。
東京で自分がバンドでライブをやる際に、お願いしているダブバンドのリズム隊が居るのだが、それが、Dubjuana midnight system。Maximum Vibration台湾ツアーに強制連行。彼らにとって初海外ツアーというのもあって、テンション高かった、。そのテンションをパッケージング。
ここのところ、自分のライブでは必ず鼻笛コーナーというのをセットリストに設けており、その際、外せないクンビアチューンが、このASS HOLE。勿論台湾ツアー時も演奏。
台湾で出会った原住民なバンド、Waiting for High。とほぼ同じメンバーで形成されるOtaku3。先住民族の節回しはユニークでレゲエやダブとの相性がいいのは、沖縄の民謡とレゲエが相性がいいのと似ている気がしている。

Artists

THE BARCOX(Okinawa)_The guitar player of most famous Melodic-core punk band in Japan called Mongol800 united new ska band in 2014.They play in old traditional ska style and record their songs in 1960 style using vintage equipment such as Drawmer 1960,Mic-pre amp of Neve and etc.

銀天団(Okinawa)_Gintendan is a Dub-band living in Gintengai, Koza where black people were living in 1960’(colony of the US era) They play dub every night in Tower of Dub Studio in Gintengai.

Tenugui Brothers(Okinawa)_ORLANDO from Ghana plays Talking drum and Palogos in Traditional style with Little Masta who is the Keyboards-Player in Downbeat style. They united band called Tenugui Brothers in 2015 in Okinawa.

MAD OVER(Okinawa)_In Okinawa, mad over means going straight. They selected their band name in double meaning. They love to drink, ska, and hardcore music. They are proud to be a party band.

La Cumbia Del Sol(Taiwan)＿They are a band based in Taipei (Taiwan).They started in 2012 as "La Cumbia Balkanska", but after a year the band broken up, and thus the formation of "The Cumbia From The Sun".Cumbia is part of the traditional music from Colombia, now very famous in Europe and America (Even Japan!). So they are bringing this new hot grooves to this part of Asia. But they don't play Cumbia in the traditional way. They mix it with Reggae, Balkan and many other styles. Each member of the band bring its own flavor to the band sound.They want to make you dance and smile!

Skaraoke(Taiwan)_SKARAOKE's debut at Kenting's Spring Scream music festival in April 2008 recieved the applause and respect of the audience, and became the premier Ska Orchestra of Taiwan! After that, people started to see their names all over Taiwan's Live Houses and Music Festivals. They always show up in fedoras, suits, and ties, just as the old-school jazz musicians did, Like gentlemen, bring the people back to the sounds of classic jazz, swingin' beats, and with their own special island-style twist!
SKARAOKE = SKA + KARAOKE
Their band name was inspired by the common past-time of the people of Taiwan and Japan. The popular singing culture of the "KARAOKE".
Added to the front of the word, is the band's favorite genre of music, "SKA" (derived from the popular music of 1960s Jamaica).
These two elements, placed together, became "SKARAOKE"!
As the name implies, SKARAOKE music is like a karaoke party with friends together doing the Ska, mellow, fun, exciting, and sometimes even outrageously loud and crazy!

DUBJUANA MIDNIGHT SYSTEM(Tokyo)_Dubjuana Midnight System is a Dub band in West-Tokyo. Their riddim section play with Little Masta. They toured Taiwan as Little Masta with Maximum Vibration in 2014.

LITTLE MASTA(Okinawa)＿I used to be a keyboards player of Blue Beat Players. Now I play ska, rocksteady, cumbia in my band called Little Masta with Maximum Vibration. I toured Taiwan with my band in 2014. And I was very impressed by Ska, Reggae, Cumbia scene in Taiwan. I’m very glad if you are interested in Taiwan band living in Japan, interested in Okinawa bands living in Taiwan.

Otaku3(Taiwan)_ OTAKU3 was united in 2009.They started reggae music tour with Useless Brotherhood in 2010.They moved to the South Point, tried to live without money in 2011 but failed in 2013.They came back to nomal society.
Since 2014, they tried to connect UTOPIA and Real World by music and life style.And find more young people having potential to join us in city. In 2015 they have several strongholds to make it. They build a new ethnic group community called DUAI.They are not just a band now, it is more like a big family.
